India

India is the second largest nation in the world.  There are 2.3% Christians in this country.  Approximately one third (over 376 million people), are suppressed by the Hindu caste system and considered “untouchable” and “below the feet of God” by their neighbors.  They are poor and oppressed, working as rickshaw drivers and day laborers, making one dollar a day.  Oftentimes, “untouchables,” also known as Dalits, are blamed for crimes they did not commit and then beaten, raped or even killed, while the police turn a blind eye.  In India, almost the entire Christian community comes from this oppressed group of people, the Dalits. Christians are even further persecuted for their faith in Jesus Christ by Hindu extremists using the anti-conversion law to terrorize Christians. We continue to hear of pastors who are beaten and their churches burned because of their faith in Christ.
